Fitness Prayers

Clearly, not everyone who cares about being fit ever prays for anything. To many, this is just too much like magic to be consistent with a serious understanding of responsible adulthood. Or, possibly, all of these same persons asked for something once, but never got it. Thus, they long ago concluded that prayers are a waste of time and energy.

Nevertheless, there are a considerable number of Americans who often pray pray for some things and who care about fitness. it is just that  most of these more religious persons would never  consider praying a fitness prayer. To them this would be like asking for a male body builder's large shoulders or woman's hour glass figure.  The same might be true of being able to finish in the  the Iron Man competition or successfully swim a three mile. All of these would be considered  too vain, too personal and too lacking in creaturely concern to be worthy of the solemnity of prayer. In other words, they would be simply too frivolous for most of us to asking the help of the Almighty.

A religious position like this needs to be respected. It is the bedrock of the greatest part of American morality. Asking for things that ought not to be requested is just not becoming behavior. Therefore, people really should be careful in what they ask for ( to mimic a popular expression.)

Still, it is true that these same people would never think twice about earnestly praying for themselves when faced with a serious operation, or for a loved one in a similar circumstance. The possibility of death and the realization that one sometimes just cannot save them self or others can be a powerful prayer catalyst even for the person who refuses to ever set foot inside of a church. Of course, there are still those who prefer to say that they simply choose to hang on, hoping for the best-- trusting the odds with perhaps with a little good luck from somewhere.

Regardless of what goes on inside any of us, it can still be said that we all are inclined to seek help whenever we feel that things are too much or too overwhelming for us. Of course, for everyday occurrences we may in a mature adult-like manner  merely rely on our daily disciplines and our normal precautions to maintain developing senses of overall health and fitness. Thus, in the best instances, we just know that we should never miss our workouts, never skip or vitamins and always eat the things we know are best for energy production and tissue repair. Therefore, that is what we do.

But how many of us are really like this? How many can really stay true to course at all times? How many are so athletically attuned that they would never deviate from the parameters of a  fitness lifestyle, no matter what? How many of us are so much like a fine Olympic athlete that we would never lapse into old habits that cause the sedentary natures and overweight bodies that we all see everyday?

Prayer can enable us to stay on course. Yet, we may feel somehow constrained to not do it. If that is true, we should ask why. Perhaps we will then find that asking for fitness is not as worthy as asking for the success of an operation. Should that be the case for any of us, we might at least consider that a consistent  fitness lifestyle is really the best preventative medicine known to all of us, but practiced by far too few.
