The First 45 Days

The latest thing to flaunt in front of people is 30 years of being at what you do. This is supposed to make you a pro, someone that no one can question, someone that everyone should listen to. How obnoxious! And yesterday I said that i have been at fitness for 45 years. Sorry about that, but I have been.

Well, Jack Lalanne has been at it for 80. That's right 80. Assuming he started at 15 on a a diet of too much sugar and a life of not so great, he has been at it for 80 years. That makes him the grandfather of fitness.

Do I respect him? Of course I do. I can't do half of what he does and I have seen him advertise his juicer with people who could be his grand daughters. He had more energy than them! If you ever have a chance to see a similar commercial, do not get up from the tube to get a sandwhich. Watch it. It just may change your life.

But this post was going to be somewhat of an apology for holding myself up as an authority without a PhD, expecting that you listen to what I have to say. Well.............................MAYBE you should...............................as long as what i have to say gets translated into terms that make sense for your life. That's what any authority figure should say to everyone, right?

Talking like this is almost enough to make me feel old, ie as if I should die soon. But I do not feel like that. I actually feel as if i am starting a new period, as if perhaps I had just finished undergrad. Actually, when I think back, I have more energy now and more of a will to live. So that makes me something like the peerless Lalanne, perhaps?

Where does this come from for both us? NOT fro taking it easy enjoying life and waiting for something to happen such as "gettin' old or sickness. So maybe that's the message, if there is one here at all.
